The FdA in Performing Arts aims to provide a dynamic, exciting and flexible learning experience for its students whilst providing industry-standard skills. Academically, it will develop students’ abilities to contextualise their learning historically, culturally and self-reflectively and students will be encouraged to showcase their work at every opportunity.

Entry requirements

For 2017 entry onwards: applicants require 72 UCAS points, with a minimum of grade ‘C’ in both GCSE Maths &English. This equates to MMP at BTEC National Diploma level, grades DDD at ‘A’ Level, and on the Diploma Foundation Studies (Art, Design & Media) this is equal to a Merit.
All applicants will do an audition.
However, in line with the widening participation brief and lifelong learning strategy, the Institute will also encourage applications from non-traditional learners who lack formal academic qualifications. All such non-traditional applicants will be interviewed, and asked to complete an essay and a judgement made taking into account their academic potential and relevant experience.

What Next

It is anticipated that graduates from the Foundation Degree in Performing Arts may go on to become a performing arts teacher, community arts facilitator, performing arts facilitator, an actor, performer or dancer, a director or choreographer or a stage manager or deputy stage manager.
Alternatively you may wish to go on to top up your Foundation Degree to an honours degree - there are a number of institutions that may offer an articulation route for you to do this.

About the FdA Performing Arts programme

The FdA in Performing Arts aims to provide a dynamic, exciting and flexible learning experience for its students whilst providing industry-standard skills. Academically, it will develop students’ abilities to contextualise their learning historically, culturally and self-reflectively and students will be encouraged to showcase their work at every opportunity.

The aim of the programme is to give each member of the cohort the requisite skills to enter the performing arts industry, and our focus on skills, employment and industry are a unique selling point for this FdA. Dedicated module tutors and support staff are on hand for students who are interested in all aspects of the performing arts. With a focus on acting, dancing, musical theatre and the essential contextual studies, this programme aims to deliver dynamic performance professionals directly into the creative sector.

The Univesity Centre Grimsby is home to the new state of the art Arts building including a 200 seater theatre, dance studio and rehearsal rooms. Students will have the opportunity to work in a professional environment with staff who have proven track records within the industry.
