Programme Benefits

Upon successful completion of this qualification graduates will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to pursue a new career, or advance an existing one in the construction industry. Many construction workers begin by working with small to medium enterprise organisations (those with less than 250 employees), but many also go onto to self employment which is usually not possible until a graduate has several years experience. Other graduates will go on to work for large organisations which may comprise roles in building management; building services, project management, design and build roles, facilities management, planning or working on large infrastructure projects such as bridges, roads and railways.

Learning & Teaching Methods

Methods of learning and teaching are designed to support students in becoming active members of a learning community. Students will be expected to work together in an informal environment as well as in formal classes where a culture of dignity, courtesy and mutual respect with staff and their peers is essential. A variety of methods will be used such as lectures, workshops, student led seminars and practical sessions. Integrating a work-based or placement opportunity, students will be visited in the workplace by a member of Institute staff to ensure a positive partnership between the employer mentor and to monitor that learning in the workplace is effective. Workplace learning is designed to support the development of an employable graduate equipped with the attributes, skills and knowledge to progress within a global market.

Equality & Diversity

All of our activities in relation to teaching, safeguarding, training, recruitment, retention and progression are core business areas where we must be mindful of the diverse needs of those we work with. Although the law no longer requires public sector organisations to produce equality schemes, the Grimsby Institute Group has produced an Equality Statement, which is more than mere words, but a statement of our intent.

This statement underpinned by declarations from the leaders of the Grimsby Institute Group include many actions we believe will proactively eliminate all forms of discrimination where they exist and prevent them from occurring in the first instance.

Equality Intent turning into equality action is the future ethos and philosophy of the Grimsby Institute Group and as the principal lead for Equality, Diversity Inclusion & Human Rights the Grimsby Institute Group will demonstrate this commitment in all that they do.
